Live Cam

TPL endeavours to give its customers a perspective. Even with our webcam we don't just look at our own small space, instead we look as far as the horizon allows! Unfortunately, sometimes even at our offices the sun sets, and the most current image shows nothing but the lights of the city and with a little luck a train passing by from time to time.

Sunset

Fifteen minutes before the sun disappears behind the horizon, a picture is taken which will be available on this page until the next day.

Current picture

The webcam generates an hourly update of the weather development of the day. With some luck, you can experience the most beautiful sunset at our website.

TPL Sunset Cam: Technical Details

The Camera

TPL uses an Axis network Camera 2100, which is optimized for inhous use with widely varying lighting. An auto-iris lens protects the CCD image sensor even when the sun comes into view, as during sunset.

The Location

The camera is located in a corner of our offices, right next to the server rack, looking to the west. The view to the east would certainly be at least as interesting, but unfortunately a new building, even higher than Airgate House, blocks the view to the horizon. In our latitudes, the weather is dominated by western winds, so the camera very often shows the bad weather fronts coming.

What can you see?

The camera shows a sector about 60 degrees wide. In the foreground, betweend the houses, one can spot the important train track Zürich - Winterthur. About every two to three minutes, a train passes, but since the camera takes a picture only every minute, some trains are not photographed. The most current image or the movies only show a small fraction of the trains.

Fifteen minutes before sunset, an special sunset picture ist taken, which will be kept until the next evening.

The movies

The camera is capable of producing live video, but this would be too much load for our Internet link, and pretty boring. Therefore a program collects an image every minute and synthesizes an accelerated movie from them, updated every hour. These movies are generated in various resolutions, from which you can choose a resolution matching your own Internet connection speed.
